Light roasts of coffee contain more caffeine than dark roasts

Although it may seem intuitive that a darker roast would be stronger, the opposite is true: light roasts actually have a higher caffeine content. During the roasting process, beans lose mass, so a pound of dark roasted beans will have less density, and therefore less caffeine, than light roasted beans.
