Your stomach absorbs 20% of the alcohol you ingest

After you swallow, the alcohol makes its way down your esophagus and into your stomach, where about 20% of it is absorbed. If your stomach is empty, the alcohol will pass through the organ quickly, causing you to feel the alcohol’s effects sooner than you would if you had eaten.
